Europe, part 1 (haul)

Hi everyone! You must be wondering where I have gone for the last 2 weeks. Right after my physics exam (Yes, I'm done with physics for good! (at least a few years) I packed my bags and headed to three different countries in Europe with my family.
I've decided to break up the blog posts because there's alot of pictures, so this blog will be about everything I got in the first country I was in, England!
First things first! My mom and I took the tube to Marble Arch, which is home to Oxford street, filled with tons of high-street shops (think Primark, French Connection, Topshop, Urban Outfitters). The first place we went to was Topshop, and I picked up two nail varnishes by Barry M, which are always raved by UK makeup gurus.

These are 3 pounds and the colour Blue moon, is similar to Borrowed and blue by Essie. This polish requires 3 coats and is quite sheer.

The next thing I made sure I would get is a sheer blouse. I've been wanting one for ages, but the one I like is by Club Monaco and costs about $125 (which is simply too much for a sheer blouse!) I made my way into Miss Selfridge and ended up getting this blouse which is almost identical to the Club Monaco one!

Love love this blouse and it was 35 pounds which is roughly $50.

The next stop was Selfridge's department store and I got this lovely bracelet by Monica Vinader

This was definitely my one special splurge, it was 115 pounds. Rose gold plated, sterling silver bracelet with a chocolate brown tie.

We visited Buckingham palace (where the Queen normally lives but she went for a summer vacation in Scotland so the public are now allowed to enter the palace!) It was beautiful with tons of detail and the audio guide was very interesting to hear. I got to see Kate Middleton's wedding dress, shoes, cake, and bouquet. In the gift shop I got this travel jewelry case, mainly for my more special jewelry, since most of it was just sitting in a glass bowl at home.

Thanks for reading, and stay tuned for a haul from the next country: France!

Crochet trend and new palette!

Hi there ! Recently, I've noticed that crochet is a really big trend right now, and at first, I admit i was hesitant. Why would anyone want to wear a paper doiley? But the delicate lace-y patterns grew on me and the other day I was in the sale section at Anthropologie and came across this:

I tried it on and it's actually really delicate and pretty! You can wear a body-con dress under so it can contrast with the loose fitting of this tunic. Or even jean shorts, skinny jeans, leggings, the options are endless. Before we made the purchase, we analyzed the stitching and it turns out there was a large hole that could be repaired with some sewing, and was granted 20% off of $39! (Originally $89) I am quite happy with the purchase.

Here is another tunic by Free people that is quite similar:

On another note, I managed to get the Coastal scents warm palette !

So pretty ! Endless neutral looks... I personally like wearing neutrals mostly, and for colour my favourite is different shades of purple. I'm not really one to go for the blues and greens, but I do, on occasion. Thanks very much for reading!

Until next time,
Rebecca

Nail of the day!

Hey! I wanted to share a picture of a lovely nail colour I recently borrowed from a friend. This is Essie's Too too hot and it's gorgeous!

The formula is amazing for this polish, it is so smooth and easy to apply, and you only need two coats for a solid finish. Highly recommend this shade for late summer vacations :)
What is your favourite nail polish colour for the summer?

Cupcakes !

Hi everyone! These days, it seems cupcake shops are very popular in the city. I've seen quite a few here and there but the only other one I've been inside is the Cupcake Shoppe located at Yonge and Eglington. These past few days I have discovered a new cupcake shop called Prairie Girl, located in the downtown area.

The picture is from here. The thing about these cupcakes is if you don't like icing, your screwed haha. the icing is literally bigger than the cake itself! When I ate these, I use a fork to eat it slowly (since they are $1.75 each I want to savour the taste) and its quite yummy. I think if you ate the whole thing at once, you might find there to be too much icing. The icing comes in many flavours, atop of a few base cakes (red velvet, chocolate, vanilla, carrot, etc.) So far I have tried vanilla with chocolate icing, vanilla with strawberry icing, and red velvet with buttercream icing :) I have to say I love the strawberry icing! It has a natural taste of strawberries and isn't too too sweet :)
The website for prairie girl is here  - http://prairiegirlbakery.com/menu/
Definitely check them out if you have a sweet tooth!

Until next time,
Rebecca

Another wish list!

Hey! One of my favourite things to do to pass the time while on the computer is to browse online shops. I don't usually buy the item, but it's just fun to see what's out there. I've discovered a new website called Planet Blue, and it is actually a very popular clothing store based in L.A. I've found a few items that I love, and kind of want to find here in Canada or... actually order online :)

1. Lace top

Look at how beautiful that lace is! Lace is really popular right now, but I find that lace can differ in many ways from it's texture to the designs on the lace. This is such a cute top for the summer, but I think you could wear it in the winter too, with jeans. Here is the link to this top: http://shopplanetblue.com/index.php/shop-online/tops/v-neck-lace-batwing-top.html?deptId=7

2. Sequin and bead tunic

Drools! This is so pretty and fabulous. Since I am short, I think this top could work as a dress for me. What I like about this is that the sequins are not overwhelming, it is striped in sequins so it's not as flashy. Here is the link of the tunic: http://shopplanetblue.com/index.php/beaded-tunic-30346.html?deptId=

3. Fur vest!

I have been wanting a fur vest since last year. I never actually purchased one because they can get quite pricey- even for faux fur. This year I'm willing to spend the money bcause they are so warm and cute! This one isn't that expensive, it's $79. The ones I see at the malls are always over $200! Here is a link for the vest: http://shopplanetblue.com/index.php/shop-online/tops/garrett-vest.html?deptId=7

What online shops have you been checking out recently?

Favourite perfumes so far

Hey! Today's post is going to be about perfumes because as of late, i have been a little obsessed.
 Let's get right into it:

The following two perfumes are my two all time favourites that I have had in my collection for a while now.

1. Miss Dior Cherie

I love this scent. I would wear it all year round, it can be a perfect summer evening (like going to barbeque) fragrance, or even a winter (like going to starbucks for a hot drink) scent.
To me, this scent is a stronger take on the light, flirty and girly scents that are in many perfumes today. Here's a list of what's inside: Italian mandarin, egyptian jasmine, and patchouli. The bottle is adorable and it costs around $60 for a 1oz bottle. I don't usually buy the huge bottles of perfume because It takes me forever to finish just one, and over time, I think they evaporate if not used (is this true? because I always see my old perfumes loose their amount .. I think..)

2. Marc Jacobs Daisy

This perfume is one of the most famous out there right now. To be honest, I didn't know it would get so much rating and that everyone would buy it. I got mine literally right when it came out (about 3 years ago?) and nowadays, I hear people say " I don't want to get that, because everyone wears that." I don't understand when people say that's their signature scent and no one can touch it, when its sold in stores everywhere? Anyways, I love this scent, its light, fresh, and pretty. Since it's so popular, you can't really go wrong with spraying it because chances are the people who smell it will like it. This costs around $60 i believe, but they have rollerball and travel size bottle option that's cheaper.

Now I want to show you guys these new fragrances I have discovered and love

1. Aerie Sheer

I can't find a picture of it (the aerie website doesn't let me copy images) but here is the link to the perfume. I love this cute perfume! I recently purchased the rollerball and i think it's perfect for the summer. The notes of it are: patchouli, peony, and berries. I guess I happen to love smelling like a garden! But really, it smells lovely and appropriate for any age. It's $37 for a 1.7 oz bottle which isn't bad at all, and the rollerball is $12.

2. Hot Couture by Givenchy

This perfume smells so sweet yet sophisticated. I think it is appropriate for those who enjoy the sweet light scent but don't want something like the sugar perfume, or Justin bieber's haha. The notes are: raspberry drew, jasmine, bergamot, white musk. It's around $70 for a 1.7 oz bottle here in Canada, but there is also the rollerball option for less of a price. I actually received the rollerball from my mom's friend and have been loving it ever since.

Thanks for reading and what is your favourite perfume?

Favourite nail polish

Essie's Nice is nice from the French Affair Spring 2011 collection. The cutest most flattering lilac purple with a touch of pink. It literally looks good on all skin tones (I've seen it on some of my friends that have different pigmentation). Amazing!

Update and Wish List !

Hello everyone! Yesterday was the day of my physics midterm, it was literally so stressful. But I'm glad it's over with, and now I can relax for the weekend (hopefully). Yesterday was the hottest day in history (for Toronto) and I have to say, it definitely affected me. It takes me about an hour to get onto my university campus (including walking and transit) so I was in the sun for a good 15 minutes here and there. BRUTAL! I really hope that those that had to work outside in this hot weather are drinking a lot of water and wearing sunscreen.

Anyways! I decided to relax by doing some online shopping. I haven't made purchases yet, but I saved a few items that really caught my eye while I was browsing. Let's get right to it:

1. Floral romper

This romper really caught my eye with it's cute soft colours and playful design. It has a sweetheart cut at the top which I think adds girly-ness and the poofy skirt part helps accentuate your waist. You can find this here,

2. Semi-fancy evening dress

I love the colour and shape of this dress. The dress is brighter than a navy, but definitely less dramatic than an electric blue. The stud detail is really cute, and the shape is very flattering. It adds curves (as the skirt is a bit poofier than the top) and I like the idea of the halter top, because you can tie it higher if it is too low. Also, you could wear a black lace bandeau or plain bandeau underneath. You can find this dress here

3. Elegant romper

I really liked this romper with it's classic bow design (I have a love for bows) and it's loose fitting style. It will not make you look like you are swimming in the romper, and it isn't too short so you can wear it to more formal occasions. I know black is not normally a summer colour but i think for this piece, it is most striking in black. You can find this here

4. Pink Denim shorts

I've actually had my eye on these pair of shorts for a few years now, but never made the purchase. They are a mineral wash denim pair of shorts, that have an elastic waist that should be comfortable and cute slits on the sides. I don't think I have seen the pink ones in store, but I have seen the blue and black ones which I also think are very cute. You can find these shorts here!

5. Cute lace tank

Hollister is known for their sweet and girly tank tops that are comfortable and casual enough to wear everyday. A cute tank top with denim shorts belted with a thick leather belt is an easy way to look summer-y yet casual! This tank comes in a variety of colours and my favourite is this light grey and the white. You can find this tank here

6. Fun hair accessory

This hair tie is actually a piece of wire covered in chiffon fabric. I love the black colour for this hair tie and can be bent into a hairband in the shape of bunny ears, a cute bow, or even folded into a rosette shape. Everyone loves keeping their hair out of their eyes on extremely hot days and this is just one way to do it! You can find this cute hair piece here

7. Fun sunglasses

i) ray bans

Yes, everyone wears these. But I love the classic look of these sunglasses, they are kind of quirky and in my opinion, adds personality to your look. Instead of the usual posh large round sunglasses that make you look like a bug, these ones give off a different vibe. I think sunglasses are the most important accessory this summer because when I walk outside, I can barely see due to the strength of the light rays. I NEED sunglasses or else I'll be squinting like crazy! You can find these here

Thank you for reading my mini wish list ! Please feel free to leave a comment :)

Beauty haul, nails, and hair cut!

Hey! Long time no post :( The reason for my lack of posts is because my second term of physics has started, and we only had 3 classes and next week there's a midterm already! I also volunteer at a few different places so I feel like when I'm not at school and volunteering, I have to be keeping up with my readings and homework! Anyways, starting with my haul, my friend recently visited Hong Kong and Bangkok and managed to get me a few goodies :)

Beginning with the hair dyes,

I've read good reviews on this brand of hair dye where the colour ends up very true to the image on the box. These two are in Milk Tea brown and Chestnut Brown. I think the chestnut brown will be a nice winter colour, and the milk tea brown a lovely summer colour.
In Asia, the brand Canmake is very popular and I managed to get the Canmake nudy glow lip gloss in milk tea 04:

The colour is a very pigmented and it is a nude-pink that is similar to my natural lip colour:

Also from Canmake, I got the cream cheek blush in 01 peach dream and it is adorable ! It's a lot smaller than I was imaging, though. I tried this blush on my lips and it serves as a soft peachy-pink lip stick (but you need to apply lip balm to prevent drying effects).

I've been dying to get the Shiseido Majolica Majorca lash expander frame plus mascara after hearing SO many great reviews all over the blog community and YouTube.

After trying this mascara, I honestly feel like it is the best mascara I have ever used. Since I can't always get this mascara, I've decided to save it for special occasions only since it is quite pricey (about $20 CAN) The brush is very small and has a unique shape where you can turn it any way to brush your eyelashes. The formula contains fibers (that I originally thought were people's eyelashes when I first opened the tube :P), that add on to your natural lashes for that false-eyelashes effect. Removal of this mascara does take longer than your average mascara but I use the Sonia Kashuk eye makeup remover (the purple one from Target) and it comes off in less than a minute.

Here is a picture of me wearing the mascara:

Moving onto nails, I recently painted my nails a white metallic shade in Kyoto Pearl by OPI

I haven't used this colour in ages, but I have rediscovered it and I find it as a very elegant shade (good for weddings). Finally, I recently cut my long hair to about shoulder length (I cut off about a good 10 cm) and I found a picture my dad took of me today when I was volunteering at the hospital,

Of course he would take a picture right as I press a wrong button ! :D
This just about wraps up this long blog post and I hope everyone has a great upcoming weekend!

Summer weekend: Yogurty's, bows, and nails

Hello everyone! This weekend was a 3-day weekend in honour of Canada day. I celebrated by going to my aunt's barbeque and spent time with family. What did you do this weekend?

This summer, one of my close friends has began working at a neighborhood place called Yogurty's. Every night it is packed with people of all ages, families, teenagers, young adults, and so forth. It is a frozen yogurt bar, that has a self-serve system where you pull the lever and dispense the amount and flavour you choose. Their flavours range from peach to red velvet cake! And for those who are wondering, the number of calories contained in the yogurt is very low. The number of toppings are endless, and they do not charge extra per topping- the price is determined according to the weight of your dessert.

For more pictures and where I found these pictures click here. I can't wait to go again and I am sure I'll probably go like multiple times a week :P

I found this weekend to be very eventful at times and very boring at other times. During the boring times, I decided to d.i.y. an old blue top I bought from Garage many years ago:

I sewed on a simple blue bow to it and it has instantly transformed into a cuter summer top that I will wear more often.

Isn't it cute? and I thought it would look nice with a pencil skirt like this...

It is from the Anthropologie store, in the sale :) Lastly, I wanted to share one of my favourite nail colours and it is Minted by Revlon:

Thanks for reading and have a great week!

Nail polish and gemstones.

Today I went out with my good friend for some shopping and dinner, and we stopped by a little boutique selling nail polish and cosmetic brands such as Nyx cosmetics and coastal scents palettes. I picked up Essie's nail polish in Tarte deco and here is a picture of it on:

The colour is slightly more pink in person. It is a soft coral colour, perfect if you want to look tanned. My friend has Essie's Nice is Nice, a lovely lilac purple, which I can't wait to pick up in the future.

Earlier in the day, I spent some time with my mom window shopping in the Yorkville area. We came across a jewelry line called Anzie, which is a collection mainly of different types of gemstones. Found by a Canadian mother and daughter, they designed their jewelery to be worn for casual and formal occasions.

Here are some pieces that really caught my eye:

1. White topaz and silver bracelet

SO PRETTY! This bracelet sparkles under the light and the clearness of the topaz does not act as a extremely flashy piece of jewelry. It is hand crafted made of sterling silver.

2. Snowflake earrings in turquoise quartz

These earrings are definitely eye-openers. The blue stone makes me think of staring at the bottom of a pool in a resort located in the Caribbeans. The mobility of these earrings causes them to dangle as you move around allowing light to hit them from different directions.

3. Black onyx and silver ring

A beautiful onyx sparkles in a different way than a topaz or diamond would sparkle. However I find that difference compelling and it isn't as "sparkly" compared to a diamond that size :P. I don't like overly flashy jewelry so I think this piece is lovely. I probably won't be getting any of these any time soon, but I can dream, right?

Until next time,
Rebecca.

All about eyelids!

Eyelids? You may ask what is the such a big deal with such a tiny yet prominent feature? Today, many women (and occasionally men) have become obsessed with the double eye lid fold, especially in Asian cultures. This is due to the fact that a larger population of Asian people do not have the double eye lids, compared to other races. This does not mean that all Asians do not have double eye-lids though, so you cannot assume that just because an Asian has double eye lids it means they got their lids done :).

I have thin double eye lids that are not obvious and the fold does not continue onto my inner eyes. I personally do not use double eye lid glue or tape because it takes too much time, is uncomfortable, and I don't think it looks so amazing that I would trade comfortable blinking for beauty. I have tried double eyelid glue and tape and definitely do not have anything against it, as long as you don't mind wearing them it is fine either way.

Here is a picture of my left eye with the double eye lid glue and my right eye without, before applying eye makeup:

As you can see, there is a difference, but personally, I don't mind having slightly smaller eyes :P. I used the Koji eye talk eye glue (about $20 from a mall near me) and you can find many tutorials on Youtube show you how to apply the glue. I find the glue causes your eyelid to fold unevenly and bumpy, and when blinking, it is uncomfortable because normally, that skin is relaxed. It causes me to keep my eyes open for longer, and my eyes end up watering because it isn't used to the unnatural blinking process. This glue isn't a complete waste however, I have heard many people use it as their eyelash glue.

Here is another picture with eye makeup:

Again, my left eye looks bigger. In my past I have used eyelid tape (about $5) and I have found that to be painful as well. And throughout the day, I find the tape looses its stickiness and one of the ends will come off! (Looks weird haha) I personally think your natural eye shape suits you and looks the best on you. However, if you insist on wanting double eye lids, there are cosmetic surgeries for that, but I do not know much about them. Here's a before and after picture I found online:

Pretty crazy! Anyways, I hope some of you may have found this helpful before you went out to try these double eye lid tools yourself.

This is what I normally wear as makeup, nothing much, normally just BB cream, liquid eyeliner, mascara, and maybe an eye shadow or two. I should put something on my brows but sometimes I just don't have time! I will be doing a quick makeup for school soon. (I always used to accidently wake up like 20 minutes before class and would be in a huge hurry).

Thanks for reading,

Rebecca.

My Favourite Restaurants (at the moment)

Hi everyone ! This is a different type of post that I usually blog about, it's going to be all about food :). Where do you like to eat? I love to try new foods and new restaurants, but I have compiled a list of places I like to visit time and time again.

1. Cafe Nervosa

This is a lovely Italian restaurant with a lively atmosphere located in the midst of Yorkville, Toronto. It has a lovely selection of pastas, pizzas, and seafood. The price range is approximately $15-20 a person, depending on what you order and what you drink. I personally love the cappelini dish, it is a spaghetti pasta with sun-dried tomato sauce topped with fresh goat cheese and basil leaves.

2. Ho Su Bistro

This is a Japanese restaurant with two locations, one at Yonge and Eglington, and one at Queen St. W. The price range is about $15 a person. Their lunch time specials are really cheap, you can get chicken teriyaki with soup and salad and side dishes for ~$7. I love coming here with friends or family and the staff are really nice. I like ordering bulgogi (cause I'm boring) but I'm sure the sushi dishes are great too.

3. Asian Station (in Pacific Mall)

I've been coming to this place to eat for a while now, and I suppose it has become one of my favourites. It has a modern syle interior and very roomy seats. The meals are cheap (usually under $10) and you get a soup, a bubble tea, and a huge portion. I usually order the pork with rice (It's really flavourful! I think it's msg though =[ ) and I recommend the iced passion fruit high tea (so good!).

4. Terroni

Terroni is a Southern-Italian restaurant with a medium-expensive range of dishes (similar to Cafe Nervosa pricing). I used to go to the St. Clair location a lot but it recently has relocated to Rosedale (correct me if I am wrong) and there is another location downtown. I recommend the pepperoni pizza (LOL so boring yet sooo good!) and the pasta with lemon in it (forget the name) is really good.

5.  So Great Thai restaurant

This Thai restaurant is very tasty and not expensive! It is about $10 a person or less, and the portions are a good size. I usually get the mango chicken or the stir fry with beef. The restaurant it self is kind of small but their food boast rich flavours and freshness. It is located in North York.

Thanks for reading and hope someone will find this helpful! :)
